Gerry's Music Shop is a full service, family owned and operated business that was founded in 1946. Currently, they serve over 50 school districts in Western Massachusetts and Connecticut with a full line of musical instruments and accessories. For generations, they have been known in the Pioneer Valley for their superior service, workmanship, dedication and knowledge.

Like most small businesses, their initial website was completed by an employee with some computer knowledge but little design background. The site was static, rarely updated and did not convey the overall quality and image of the business. As an additional challenge, the team at Gerry's was ready to enter the world of e-commerce.

The Challenge: ASP Shopping Cart

Gerry's Music Shop has long been one of the area's best specialty stores, and also offers very competitive pricing. Specializing in band instruments, they carry a complete line of the industry's leading products.

Ready to launch an e-commerce site, Gerry's needed a package that would be easy to administer, especially over low-bandwidth. In addition, the site had to cope with a large products database, many of which have several options (modifiers) which may affect the pricing of the product. In addition, since many of the products are large or heavy, the ability to determine shipping charges in a variety of ways was also a necessity.

AbleWave delivered a fresh, clean design and a robust ASP-driven shopping cart system. Custom installations also include a product catalog import module, multi-tiered shipping options, and an integrated basic Content Management System to control the static pages.

Since its launch, Gerrys-Music.com has generated plenty of orders to provide a very high return on investment, and has helped increase in-store traffic through local promotion. A side benefit has been an increase in phone inquiries. Both the local traffic and phone traffic have enabled Gerry's to capitalize on what they do best: customer service.
